The Language of Ontoglyphs

Orbit of Silent Signs

Silence is not an absence, but a presence.

Ontoglyphic Writing is an original artistic practice and an evolving visual language created by Blanka Križ.

Emerging through gesture, sound, movement, and conscious presence, each Ontoglyph transforms an intangible experience into a singular visual form.

A Visual Encounter

Each Ontoglyph is an unrepeatable visual event: a singular trace of a moment, formed through a process that cannot be reduced to the repetition of a formula.

Poems & Manifestos

Alongside the visual practice, poetry and short manifestos form an integral part of Ontoglyphic Writing.

Rather than serving as descriptions or interpretations of the artworks, these texts emerge from the same creative experience, extending the dialogue between visual form and language.

The Dance of the Shadows Notes

On a page of ancient lore,
Shadows leap, and spirits soar.
Lines of ink, with bold and free,
Weave a song of mystery.

Each dark form a note in flight,
Dancing in the golden light.
Harmony, both lost and found,
Echoes softly, all around.

Through the chaos, beauty grows,
A hidden melody softly flows.
Silent figures, secrets keep,
When music wakes and shadows leap.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The Language of Ontoglyphs - Beyond Asemic Writing

Blanka Blinx Križ — Creator of Ontoglyphic Writing

Blanka Križ is a contemporary artist and the creator of Ontoglyphic Writing, an original artistic practice and an evolving visual language of her own invention. Developed since 2024, this practice has become the defining voice of her artistic identity, emerging through an ongoing investigation of gesture, presence, and the transformation of intangible experience into visual form.

Situated at the intersection of asemic writing, embodied calligraphy, abstraction, and conscious presence, Ontoglyphic Writing explores the possibilities of writing beyond conventional language and readability. While in dialogue with the broader field of asemic writing and informed by Zen awareness and the principles of Shōdō, the Japanese art of calligraphy, it constitutes Blanka’s own distinctive artistic practice.

Music plays a significant role in her creative process, acting as a generative force that can shape visual forms in real time. Through a state of meditative presence, Blanka enters into an intuitive relationship with sound, rhythm, breath, and movement. The brush becomes an extension of this embodied response, and each Ontoglyph emerges through a single, continuous gesture. Rather than constructing symbols according to a predetermined system, she allows each form to arise spontaneously through the encounter between inner perception and the act of making.

The music is not chosen in advance; only upon entering a meditative state does the artist sense which melody will guide the gesture and shape the emerging form.

The term Ontoglyphic brings together onto, referring to being or existence, and glyph, meaning a sign or inscribed mark. Each Ontoglyph is an unrepeatable visual event: a singular trace of a moment, formed through a process that cannot be reduced to the repetition of a formula. Although Ontoglyphic Writing is an evolving visual language, it does not rely on a fixed vocabulary of recurring symbols. Its identity emerges through the continuity of the artistic process, while each individual form retains its own distinct presence.

How can a gesture preserve the uniqueness of moment while becoming a form that others can encounter, interpret and experience in their own way?

At the heart of this practice lies a shift in how a sign is both created and encountered. Blanka does not plan the figures she will draw. As music unfolds, she experiences the emerging Ontoglyphs as individual notes taking visible form, each with its own identity. These forms are not intended to convey predetermined verbal meanings or to be deciphered through a fixed code. While they arise from the artist’s immediate experience of sound, viewers remain free to recognize different figures, associations, and meanings within them.

The practice extends beyond the visual mark itself. Alongside Ontoglyphic Writing, poems and short, manifesto-like texts emerge spontaneously as part of the wider creative process. These texts do not simply explain the images; they open another dimension of expression, establishing a dialogue between visual form, language, and the experience from which both arise.

Ontoglyphic Writing is an ongoing, long-term body of work and the central focus of Blanka’s current artistic practice. Its development is documented and explored through Liber Onthoglyphic of Flow, a 166-pages, hand-bound artist’s book that brings together an expanding collection of Ontoglyphs and an extended investigation into the possibilities of this evolving visual language.

Across this practice, Blanka explores how an intangible experience can take visible form without losing the singularity of the moment from which it emerges. Her work moves between stillness and movement, sound and silence, intuition and awareness.
