ABOUT THE ARTIST
BLANKA BLINX KRIŽ

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Visual Artist · Creator of Ontoglyphic Writing

Blanka Blinx Križ is a Slovenian multidisciplinary visual artist based in Ljubljana. Her artistic practice spans painting, illustration, photography, experimental techniques, and artist’s books, reflecting years of exploration across different materials, disciplines, and forms of visual expression.

Throughout her artistic development, Balnka has explored the relationship between material, intuition, imagination, and form. Her work has moved between abstraction, three-dimensional experimentation, surrealist imagery, and the creation of entirely imagined visual worlds.

In 2024, this ongoing exploration took a defining turn with the emergence of Ontoglyphic Writing — an original artistic practice developed through her own experimentation with sound, movement, and meditative presence. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese calligraphic tradition of Shōdō, she developed an independent visual language rooted in her personal experience of music and spontaneous creation.

For Blanka, this marked a profound moment of artistic recognition:

“I found my voice.”

Ontoglyphic Writing has since become the central expression of her artistic identity, finding its most comprehensive realization in Liber ONTHOglyphic of Flow — Volume I, an ongoing, hand-bound artist’s book that she considers her life’s work.

AN EVOLVING ARTISTIC PATH

Before and alongside the development of Ontoglyphic Writing, Križ explored a wide range of artistic techniques, materials, and forms of expression.

Her earlier work includes abstract acrylic paintings on canvas, surrealist compositions created with alcohol ink, and experimental three-dimensional works combining paper, colour, and material depth. These investigations reflect her continuing interest in the possibilities of artistic materials and unconventional approaches to image-making.

A parallel strand of her practice is devoted to illustration and the invention of imaginary beings.

In Puffer’s Dreamland (2023), fantastical characters emerge from forms inspired by nature — fruits, shells, leaves, roots, and other unexpected structures transformed through imagination and watercolour.

Her later illustrated worlds include Essentia Guardians (2025), a collection of green mystical beings, and Spark Whispers (2025), a series of imagined characters developed through watercolour illustration.

Another ongoing project, Past and Present (begun in 2025), takes the form of a small illustrated artist’s book. Inspired by the winged seeds of trees, it develops an imaginary world inhabited by individual characters, each with its own story, purpose, and place within that world.

Each of these bodies of work maintains its own artistic identity. Together, they form part of a wider journey of experimentation, material exploration, and imaginative discovery — a journey that ultimately led Blanka to recognize Ontoglyphic Writing as her defining artistic voice.

EDUCATION & INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE

A DEFINING ARTISTIC LANGUAGE

After years of exploring different artistic disciplines, materials, and techniques, Blanka found in Ontoglyphic Writing a visual language that she recognizes as unmistakably her own.

Her earlier artistic investigations remain significant bodies of work in their own right, while also forming part of the creative journey that led to this defining practice.

At the centre of this development stands Liber ONTHOglyphic of Flow — Volume I — her most complex artistic undertaking to date. Bringing together spontaneous visual writing, an original symbolic codex, poetry, manifestos, and a deeply personal creative philosophy, the book represents an evolving artistic universe through which Križ continues to explore the possibilities of her own visual language.

More than a record of artistic experimentation, the Liber is a deeply personal, ongoing work in which years of exploration find a new sense of unity.

Every shadow carries a rhythm. Every gesture holds a silent note. Where sound fades, a hidden dance begins.
